On May 17, 2016, Detective Daryl Clark, a Crime Scene Investigator for Cherokee County, came and spoke with our 4th and 5th grade Fairmount Elementary School students and discussed two different, yet related careers.

His presentation to the 4th graders was tailored toward the career area of STEM which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.  The students learned several lessons about investigation:  1)  Looking at whorls, loops and arches when identifying fingerprints; 2) Calculating timelines when gathering evidence in a crime, and 3) Identifying and narrowing down the list of suspects and ruling out suspects by way of motive and alibi.

Detective Clark’s presentation to the 5th graders was targeted more toward the career of Information Technology (IT).  As a detective, he has investigated numerous technological histories in computers and cell phones.  With 15 years in law enforcement, he has utilized a myriad of computer forensic tools to help him solve crimes.
