I have been the Media Specialist at Fairmount Elementary for six years now. This is my 12th year as a school librarian. Before becoming a librarian, I was a Prekindergarten teacher for seven years and before that, a Piano Instructor for twelve years. I also taught Music & Movement for children, and I frequently incorporate music into the lessons I teach in the library

My first job ever was in the Northwest Georgia Regional Library in Dalton. I was in 7th grade and I shelved books for $1 an hour. I loved it! My job was also to keep the books in order, so I touched every book in the entire library. I brought them home by the armload.  Books opened worlds to me that I wouldn't have otherwise known about, so I realize how books can change a child's life.

I am a browser. I love to know things, and then find out more. The library is the perfect place for me and I share my enthusiasm with every child who walks through the door.  As a teacher, I believe it is vitally important to respect each child, and to be aware that they are not "just children"- they are people. They have feelings, dreams, fears, and needs, just like the rest of us do, and they must be respected, listened to and supported in the present as they reach toward their future. My goal is to participate in giving children an education that supports them in the present, and will allow them to seek out and claim opportunities in their future.

I am highly qualified for my position at Fairmount Elementary School. I hold an M.L.M.T. (Master of Library, Media & Technology) and an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University. I am currently pursuing a Master of Library & Information Science from the University of South Carolina. I also hold a Bachelor's in Music Education from State University of West Georgia.

I am an active member of our school community. I sponsor the FES Student Council and the FES Reading Bowl Team. I also assist Mrs. Crowley with the FES Chorus, work with the Yearbook Staff, and co-sponsor the PTA Reflections Art Contest. I am happy to be a part of and contribute to our school in any way I can.

Currently, I live in Dalton with my Mother and my four-leggeds Chloe, Sarah, and Dennis. Together we make a very happy family!
